CME Horizon 2006

A whole day CME (Continuing medical education) for eye surgeons was organized by Baba Bihari Netralaya on 9th April, 2006 at hotel Jai Vilas, SIRSA in association with IMA Sirsa and Sri Sankra Deva Nethralaya, Guwahati. Dr. KV Singh, OSD to CM Haryana, inaugurated the conference. (Incidentally Dr. Singh an Ex. HMS is also a medical graduate.) Dr Singh said that Baba Bihari Netralaya has reached new heights to provide latest treatment facilities within a very short span of two years. He said that Haryana Govt is also serious about providing health services at grass root level. Schemes like delivery huts are in progress.

In this conference many top-notch ophthalmologists of national fame participated. Dr. Neeru Gijwani gave welcome address on behalf of Baba Bihari Netralaya.

Dr. Harsha Bhattacharaya, Dr. Cyrus M. Shroff, Dr. M.R. Dogra, Dr. K. Bhattachargee, Dr. Aditya Arora, Dr. G. K. Aggarwal, Dr. Darshan Ahuja, discussed on various topics. Dr. Harsha & Dr. Shroff informed about visual ill effects of diabetes mellitus and their management. Dr Shroff told that the incidence of diabetic retinopathy and complications due to it are increasing in India. Dr. Dogra said that the practice of administration of Oxygen soon after birth to prematurely born babies is doing harm to premature retina of such babies. This oxygenation leads to a disease called, “Retinopathy of Prematurity” which may cause permanent blindness of the baby if not detected and treated early. Therefore paediatricians & ophthalmologists should work in unison in such a situation.

Many eye surgeons from Haryana & Punjab came in the CME and enjoyed scientific session. Dr. Sushil Kumar, Dr. Parveen Arora, Dr. M.R. Bansal. Dr. G.K. Aggarwal. Dr. Vinod Mehta, Dr. Karan Singh, Mr. Satish Gupta etc from Sirsa attended the seminar. Dr. DP Kar Medical Director, Baba Bihari Netralaya, expressed gratitude delegates, members of IMA, Dr. KV Singh and all those who made this event a success. Mr Parveen Bagla, president Baba Bihari Netralaya, presented a memento to Dr K.V. Singh.

Delays in legislation slow the progress of continuing medical education in India
Indian medical associations say their doctors desperately need continuing medical education (CME) to keep them up to date with the latest drugs, equipment and medical practices but legislation to make this a requirement has made little progress.

The Medical Council of India had campaigned for CME to be made compulsory, as it is in the UK and some US states, for the country’s more than 600, 000 registered doctors. So that medical practice is standardized across the country while making sure it is up to date with the latest developments.

Despite the lack of legal incentive for doctors to attend regular refresher courses, CME has been catching on in India over the past few years due to the efforts of regional medical associations.

This effort of organizing CME in SIRSA, a small remote city of Haryana is commendable, as often-local doctors are unable to attend CME seminars that are held in far away bigger cities due to paucity of time or various reasons.

CPI Demands Financial Package.

Talking to SirsaNews at Ellenabad, Comrd. Swarn Singh Wirk, Distt. Gen. Secretary CPI, said that a financial assistance package as being proposed to be announced for 4 Southern states, should also be extended to the farmers of Punjab & Haryana. He said that the financial health of farmers of these two northern states is also no good. Farmers in these two states had also been committing suicides since last many years.

He said that in a single distt. of Punjab, neighboring to Sirsa, there are cases of more than 100 suicides by its farmers since last few years.

He was Quoting on the following statement of Mr Sharad Pawar: { New Delhi: The Centre will fund a financial package to prevent farmer suicides in four states, said Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.}

HSGPC State Body Meeting Held

State president, Mr. Jagdish Singh Jhinda, of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGPC) Adhoc, addressed the district executive meeting at Gurdwara Chilla Sahib SIRSA today upon his visit after the GT Road Karnal Jam by HSGPC on April 2nd at Krukshetra. He said that despite all the odds The Jamming of NH#1 for more than 2 hours was a big success. Once again HSGPC has proved that people of Haryana in general and Sikhs in particular favor the creation of Separate Sikh body for the management of Gurdwaras in Haryana. He said the jam was peaceful and was cleared in the interest and for the convenience of commuters who waited patiently in sympathy to HSGPC. This Jam gave a clear message to the Govt. that nothing short of HSGPC and that too at an early date is desired by Sikhs of Haryana.

Mr. Jhinda informed told Sirsa News that on 5th, April 2006, he along with General Secretary, Mr. Deedar Singh Nalwi and other members gave a memorandum to Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh on his Panipat visit. The PM was briefed about how the formation of separate Gurdwara Committee shall help Haryana state as well as the Sikhs of Haryana. A Siropa was also presented to the Prime Minister by Mr. Jhinda.

Mr. Jhinda announced that on 23rd April, 2006 another distt level meeting shall be held at this very Gurdwara to discuss future action plans. Before that on April 15,16 17 & 18, blockwise representatives of Sirsa shall go to Kurukshetra, for Dharna that is continuing since last 50 days in front of Mr. HS Chattha, Minister of Agriculture Haryana.

Mr. L. D. Arora, Industries Minister Haryana, laid the foundation of a new 5-room complex of Govt. Senior Secondary, SIRSA. Speaking at the school Mr. Arora said that the Haryana Govt. was committed to provide quality education.

Ahinsa Yatra

Ahinsa Yatra led by Sadhwi Kanak Prabha disciple of Acharaya Maha Pragya of the Jain Samaj, reached Sirsa today from the Dabwali side of Sirsa. The Yatra has started on 5th Dec 2001 from Sujan Garh in Rajasthan. The Yatra was given a warm welcome by many organizations of Sirsa at Ch. Dalbir Singh Indoor Stadium, from the stadium the Yatra in the form of a procession marched through various bazaars and reached a venue near Jain Dharm Shala, Jain School Street, Bhadra Bazar SIRSA. Mr L.D. Arora Minister of Industries welcomed the Yatra on behalf of the Haryana State. Hundereds of devotees from Jain Samaj attended the function, the women were all dressed in saffron and yellow for this occasion.

Sadhwi Kanak Prabha said, “Its vital to develop a culture of non-violence.” She said that Acharya Mahapragya had started this Yatra, moved by the Gujrat Riots. She said over a period Hinsa (Violence) has dominated over Ahinsa (Non-Vilonce), this must be reverted for the betterment of the society. She said that even during the days of militancy in Punjab, Acharaya Mahapragya was instrumental in the happening of Rajiv-Longowal accord.

5th Death Anniversary Tau Devi Lal

Ch. Devi Lal Ex DPM of India was remembered today by holding prayers and garlanding of his statues at different places in Sirsa Distt. In the early morning in SIRSA a Sarv-Dharma Prayer was held at Tau Devi Lal Park, and his statue was garlanded. Leaders and party workers of INLD as well people who appreciated Ch. Devilal were present on these events. Some of them were, Mr. Padam Jain, Mr. Amir Chawla, Mr. Ashok Verma, Mr.Subhash Kamboj, Mr.Bharat Singh Odhan, Mr. Krishan Gumber, Dr. Radhey Shyam Shrama, Mr. Krishan Tantia, Mr. Atma Ram, Mrs. Promila Sharma, Mrs. Krishna Phogat, Mr. Arun Beniwal etc.

Mr. Digvijay Singh (S/o Mr. Ajay Chautala) grandson son of Ch. Devi Lal was also present at Town Park and later at JCDV also.

Similarly the statue of Ch Devilal at Ch. Devi Lal Engineering College, situated in Village Panniwala Mota about 20 km from Sirsa on the National Highway # 10 was also garlanded.


At Jan Nayak Ch Devi Lal Vidyapeeth (JCDV), Mr. Manful Singh Dhaka, Registrar of JCDV, garlanded the statue at JCDV campus, Mr. Vinay Kumar Mendiratta, Director JCDV offered flowers at the statue.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized in the dental college complex of Jan Nayak Ch. Devi Lal Vidyapeeth (JCDV) Sirsa. All the Principals and many from the staff and large number of students of the group of institutions under JCDV were present at the blood donation camp. Dr. GS Somany, Mr. Ashwani Sharma, & Mr. Karnail Singh from the Distt. Red Cross Blood Donation Services collected the blood units. A social worker Mr. Rajesh Satija, who had donated blood more than 2 dozen times, associated with the Red Cross, said that more than 90 units of blood had been collected in the camp.

Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhaka, despite his disabilities, was seen donating the blood at the camp. He told Sirsa News that this time he was dedicating his blood to Brave Soldiers.

1. Blood Donation camp at Village Patti Kirpal

Jai Sri Ram Sewa Samiti Ellenabad, and Gram Panchayat Patti Kirpal organized a blood donation and health check up camp today at a small village Patti Kirpal of the Ellenabad. Dr. Ashok Tarar, Mr Sharma and his team from Red Cross Blood Donation Services Sirsa collected about 38 units of blood from the village. Three women also became donor volunteers at this camp. Sr. Gudeep Singh, Village elder man inaugurated the camp.

Sri Roop Ram of the Jai Sri Ram Sewa Samiti and his associates along with the Village Sarpanch Mrs. Hundal and her husband Mr. Davinder Singh Hundal along with Prem Singh and many enthusiastic village youth made arrangements for the health checkup etc. Dr. Mukesh Chaudhary of Chaudhary Eye Clinic Ellenabad tested eyes of about 200 persons. Dr Vijay, a dentist from Ellenabad advised the gathering about oral hygiene and dental care, toothbrushes and pastes were distributed. Momentos and certificates were given to voluteers and motivators

2. Doctor Goes Missing

According to reports, one Dr. Jagdeep Aggarwal, posted at Civil Hospital Sirsa has gone missing following apprehension of police charges against him in a certain case of Kaithal, his family members were not available to comment on this.
