Dr RS Sharma Vice Chancellor CDLU announced as many as
a dozen National Conferences on various subjects to be held on CDLU campus in
the months February, March and April. The first in the series will be held by
department of Biotechnology of the university.

Village awaits prospective sarpanches to turn 21
Residents of Patti Kirpal village in the district are
up against an interesting situation in these panchayat elections.
Unable to elect their sarpanch as none qualified the
educational norms set in the panchayat elections; the villagers are now waiting
for two “potential sarpanches” to attain the age of 21 in February this year.

The post of saranch of Patti Kirpal with a population
of nearly 700 people and having 410 voters is reserved for Dalit woman, who has
to be 8th pass.
When the elections were held in the village on January
10, five out of six panches were elected unopposed, but no nomination was filed
for the post of sarpanch as none was eligible.
“A Dalit youth had recently married a girl with the
condition that the bride should be 8th pass. But when the turn of filing
nominations came, the family was told that she is merely 7th standard pass,”
said a villager.
All eyes are now set on two cousin sisters Reena,
daughter of Jeet Singh, who will be 21 on February 15, and Kulwinder Kaur,
daughter of Banta Singh, who turns 21 on February 28.
Both the girls are 8th pass, but they could not file
the nomination papers because they were underage.
“There is no issue between the two girls as both are
from our family. We will sit together and decide whom to elect when the time
comes,” said Banta Singh.
Balwinder Singh, another villager, said, “The
residents are also worried that since both these girls are of marriageable age,
they will not remain in the village after their marriage.” For this, villagers
are also pinning their hopes on three Dalit youths of marriageable age from the
village.
“If any of them can bring bride who is educated up to
8th standard, it will be even better,” Balwinder added.
Gurjeet Singh Mann, a progressive farmer from Patti
Kirpal, said the village had one of the oldest schools of the area set up in
1954, but it was still up to 5th standard only.
Mamata Dhankar, a teacher in the village primary
school, said: “Those who want to continue their study after 5th standard have
to go to Maujkhera, which is three kilometers away.”
Chief parliamentary secretary Haryana Govt. S.
Bakshish Singh Virk on his visit to village Patti Kirpal on 21st
January said that this and other such primary schools in Haryana will be
upgraded if they met the required norms for upgradation, the educational norms
clamped on PRI elections are showing positive effects, as this time number of
educated youth and females have increased. Inclusion of educated youth will
also help in combating corruption in Panchayats. Mr Virk had come to address a
public meeting at the residence of Ex Sarpanch S Barjinder Singh Mann, where he
felicitated a number of newly elected Sarpanches and members of panchayats from
different villages in phase I and II.

INLD won 13 out of 24 seats for Zila
Parishad elections, while Congress and BJP bagged 6 and 5 seats respectively.
Chairmanship of Zila Parishad is reserved for woman
this time, but the defeat of three prominent ladies in the INLD camp has made
the victory lackluster.

Eight years old Rujhan Chaudhary (Ruhi) is daughter of
Sandeep Chaudhary Advocate practicing at District courts Sirsa and Monika
Chaudhary an Advocate working as legal cum probation officer with District
Child Protection unit Sirsa. Rujhan is granddaughter of Dr GD Chaudhary a
renowned poet of Sirsa. A student of class 4th of Satluj Public
School Rujhan is only eight years old and at this tender age is perhaps the
youngest girl is this region to have authored a book of poetry that got
published in her name. The book has been published by 'Tasveer Parkashan' of
Bhupinder Panniwalia based in Kalanwali.
Lalit Mohan Jain presided over the function, Prof Rup Devgun conducted the program, Ms Arti Bansal an associate professor of Govt National College Sirsa reviewed the book. Veteran actress Sadhna who recently passed away was paid homage at the program, Pardeep Raheja rendered a melodious song from her film.

As the year 2015 draws to an end, 5 resident doctors of Civil Hospital Sirsa brought shame to the noble medical profession.
Five doctors have been suspended for allegedly
consuming liquor in the Trauma Centre of the General Hospital here.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) PK Mahapatra today suspended Dr Vipul
Gupta, Resident Medical Officer (RMO), Dr Viney Singla, Dr Bharat Bhushan, Dr
Bharat Saharan and Dr Rahul Meghani.
The action was taken on the recommendation of
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Paramjit Singh Chahal, who, on the direction of
Deputy Commissioner Sharandeep Kaur Brar, visited the hospital on Tuesday night
to inquire into the going-on in the hospital. The SDM later submitted a report
to higher authorities.
According to the report, the doctors gathered in the
RMO’s room on Tuesday evening and started consuming liquor.
A patient’s relative got an inkling of the goings-on
in the RMO’s room and he called the police as well as reporters of local TV
channels.
The erring doctors denied having consumed liquor and
said they were eating food in the room. Two policemen, who went to the
hospital, said tests by breath analysers proved the doctors had not consumed
alcohol.
The patient’s relative, however, accused the police of
being hand in glove with the erring doctors, so he and the reporters apprised
the DC of the matter.
They alleged the policemen had sprayed a room
freshener provided to them by the doctors in the RMO’s room in their presence
and disposed of certain incriminating articles from the room.
The SDM said the doctors refused to give their blood
samples.

-पुलिस और सीएमओ बोले, जांच के बाद करेंगे कार्रवाई।सिरसा -डॉ विनय व डॉ भारत भूषण को ससपेंड करने की सिविल सर्जन ने सरकार से की सिफारिश ।
-दोनों चिकत्सक के खिलाफ एसडीएम की जाँच के बाद हुई करवाई ।

Eminent senior journalist
Sushil Manav will be attending an important media workshop of UNICEF to be held
in Delhi NCR on 23rd and 24th December 2015.
The Media Workshop on 23rd
will be concurrent to campaign launch for Weekly Iron and Folic Acid
Supplementation Programme (WIFS) by UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra
& Sh JP Nadha Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare.
Another important workshop for
media will be held on 24th where apart from WIFS, the topic
“Rotavirus vaccine and Routine Immunisation” will be discussed in great
detail. This important vaccine will also be included in the India's national
immunization programme.
Sushil Manav is senior staff
correspondent of 'The Tribune' from Fatehabad and Sirsa districts since last several years
but he has been assigned several times to report sensitive and important news of areas beyond these two districts.
Mr Manav is the only media
person chosen from this region to participate in this important UNICEF workshop, he being a life science graduate with additional education in the fields of Pharmaceuticals, English, Law, Journalism & Mass Communication. He has sound
knowledge and understanding of these fields. During previous launch of WIFS
which was suspended due to various controversies, Manav had extensively reported
the WIFS, and supplemented each story with correct scientific information. Mr
Manav is known for his indepth research into every story especially pertaining to
the fields of medicine, agriculture, science and law.
Importance of WIFS: India has the largest number
of adolescents aged 10-19 years in the world - 253 million out of 1.2 billion.
This age group referred as adolescents - comprise one-fifth of India’s
population and are key drivers of India’s future economic growth. However, 56
per cent of girls and 30 per cent of boys in the age group of 15-19 years in
India suffer from anaemia (NFHS-3). This means that 1 out of 2 young girls and
1 out of 3 young boys are anaemic. Adolescent marriage and
pregnancy is highly prevalent in India, particularly in rural areas. Anaemia
has an intergenerational impact on the cycle of poverty. Anaemia during
pregnancy increases the risk or mortality and illness for the mother as well as
the new born. Children born to anaemic mothers often have low reserves of iron
which if remains unchecked have further implications on their growth and
development. In response to the problem, the Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, Government of India launched Weekly Iron & Folic Acid
Supplementation (WIFS) Programme in 2012 with the aim to reduce the prevalence
and severity of nutritional anaemia in adolescent population (10-19 years). The
target for WIFS is adolescent girls and boys in government/ government aided/
municipal schools, between classes 6 to 12 and out of school adolescent girls.
Inclusion of media workshop
this time by UNICEF is a prudent step to disseminate correct information to the masses effectively.
