JCD Vidyapeeth provided the perfect stage, the right ambience and an
appreciative audience in a pleasant journey into the world of Punjabi &
Sufi renditions, classical songs and bhajan's this morning. JCD Vidyapeeth and
Punjabi Sahitya Akademi jointly organized a Punjabi & Sufi musical program
at JCDV campus today as part of its regular activities to promote and preserve
traditional music.
Sufism
is the mystical and ancient branch of Islam that emphasizes the seeker's path
toward ecstatic unity with God. Many Sufi traditions seek to utilize its
emotive power for remembering God. Sufi communities or orders are found
throughout the Muslim world, from South and Central Asia through Turkey, Iran,
the Levant and northern, eastern and western Africa. With that wide a
geographical and cultural spread for Sufism itself, Sufi musical practice is
itself equally diverse.
Noted
singer Surjeet Safri & Party, from Samana, Punjab enthralled Punjabi, Sufiana
and classical music lovers to an array of mesmerising numbers, one after the
other at the musical morning. Each one of them performed right from his soul
and made the listeners feel a river of joy flowing in them. The audience filled
to capacity, greeted the singers with a thundering round of applause. The
programme started with a Saraswati pooja by Sr. Sukhchain Singh Bhandari,
Director, Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, Chandigarh, Mohan Sapra, distinguished Poet
& Dr. Shamim Sharma, MD, JCDV. This was followed by a Sufiana rendition,
which evoked huge audience appreciation. Soon to follow was an array of songs.
Before the curtains went up, Safari said he was happy to be among true music
lovers.
Sr.
Sukhchain Singh Bhandari said that traditional music culture is pride of our
nation and it is our responsibility to preserve them in its original form and
the Academy has been playing a catalytic role in the proliferation of Punjabi
literary and cultural activities, in the spheres of music, folk dances,
seminars, symposia, short story, poetry, novel, literary criticism, drama etc.
During the last two decades, the Academy has assumed a significant role and
status of premier organization in the field of Punjabi language, literature and
culture.
Dr.
Shamim Sharma, was all praise for the Academy, which made all out efforts in
organising the vocal music concert. She added, since the earliest days of the
faith, the Sufis have produced some of the most beautiful art, poetry and
music. Praising the voice of singer, she said that the Academy should keep on
encouraging young and talented singers like him. The audience appreciated all
the songs with perfectly timed applause.
On
this occasion, collection of poems by Sh.Harbhajan Singh Renu: ‘ Buddh Phirr
Muskuraye ‘ was launched. The translation of which is done by Sh. Puran Mudgill
and Sh. Mohan Sapra. Besides other dignitaries, principals, staff and renowned
literary figures of the city also graced the delightful musical event. A Shradhanjali Samaroh for HS Renu shall be held on 10th June 2012 at Seth Tula Ram Dharamshala between 11 and 2PM.
