Dr. Singh was speaking after laying the foundation stone of 2800 MW Gorakhpur Haryana Atomic Power Project at Gorakhpur on 13th January 2014.
While congratulating the people of Haryana for extending cooperation for setting up of this nuclear power project, the Prime Minister said that this project would strengthen the lead taken by Haryana in field of economic development in the country over other states. He said that this would be the first of its kind project in this part of the country. Half of the total power to be generated from this project would be utilized to meet the demand of villages, towns and industries in the state.
Dr. Manmohan emphasized the need of international cooperation to meet our energy requirements especially in increasing the nuclear power production in the country. But he regretted that international community restricts the country’s access to nuclear technology for a long time. However, our government achieved success in striking trade in nuclear technology with other countries in year 2008. This has enabled us to set up nuclear power projects in the country and we are getting adequate supply of nuclear fuel on economical rates.

Governor Haryana Mr. Jagannath Pahadia, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Km Selja, Union Minister of State in PMO Mr. Narayan Sami, several Ministers,  MPs and MLA and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion.
