Israel Horticulture experts to help Indian horticulturists-Arjun Saini DDH (Fruits)

Recently Department of Horticulture Haryana and Experts in Horticulture from Israel adopted a few orchards in Haryana to transfer technical know how on these model farms. One of such Orchard is of Mr. Raman Godara a progressive farmer of Village Kheowali in Sirsa.


During a visit to this orchard Mr. Dove Roaver said that unpredictable climate is an issue here but apart from that Agro-techniques can help identify and apply corrective measures to malfunctioning Citrus plants. Mr. Arjun Singh Saini Deputy Director Horticulture (Fruits), Haryana, said that this very orchard of Mr. Godara has been chosen as it has a variety of old as well as new plantations and it also has plantations at different spacing, a pre-requisite that the Israel Experts were looking for. Mr. Raman Godara said that the per hectare yield in Israel is unbelievably high if we compare the yield in India, if Indian farmers can get the know how to augment the yield by using Israeli know how and that too without having to go to Israel than this can be of a great boon.

The scientists from Israel told SirsaNews that in a country of dense population and little arable land, intensive horticulture was emphasized at the expense of field crops. Today, horticultural produce constitutes half of the total agricultural production. Past experience teaches that industries, organization and firms do not last for ever. History shows that horticulture did respond to changes, but its reaction time is long and sometimes the adjustment period is very painful. Planning horticulture's response in advance can reduce the time and pain involved. The same attitude should be adopted in India as well

The National Horticulture Mission had since January 2007 motivating the farmers of Sirsa to go for Horticulture through various seminars etc
