Dr
Raj Shri Singh IPS SP Sirsa paid tribute at Police Lines Sirsa on Sunday to
brave Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) martyrs who laid down their lives,
while fighting the Chinese insurgents in Ladakh.
A
parade was also organised to mark the occasion and rich tributes were paid to
575 police personnel who laid down their lives while on duty all over the
country during the past one year.
On
October 21, 1959, Deputy Superintendent of Police Karam Singh and 20 soldiers
were attacked by the Chinese Army at Hot Springs in Ladakh resulting in 10
casualties.
The
survivors were imprisoned. Since then, October 21 is observed as Police
Commemoration Day.
A
function to mark the day was held at Police Lines SIRSA. This type of function is
held in all Police Lines of the country in order to pay homage to the slain
policemen throughout the country.
Hot
Spring is situated in the Aksai area of Ladakh with an inhospitable terrain at
an altitude ranging between 15000-16000 feet and passes over 18000 feet high
devoid of any inhabitation or vegetation.
Every
year, since 1961 a police party visits Hot Spring in Ladakh to pay homage to 10
CRPF personnel killed by the Chinese in 1959.
