Yoga is an Indian physical, mental, and spiritual practice or discipline. There is a broad variety of schools, practices and goals in Hinduism, Buddhism (including Vajrayana and Tibetan Buddhism and Jainism. The best-known are Hatha yoga and Raja yoga. The origins of Yoga have been speculated to date back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions, but most likely developed around the sixth and fifth centuries BCE, in ancient India's ascetic circles, which are also credited with the early sramana movements. The chronology of earliest texts describing yoga-practices is unclear, varyingly credited to Hindu Upanishads and Buddhist Pāli Canon, probably of third century BCE or later. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali from first half of 1st millennium CE is one of a key surviving major texts on Yoga. Hatha yoga texts emerged around 11th century CE, and in its origins was related to Tantrism.
June 21 was declared as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014. Yoga, a physical, mental and spiritual practice having its origin over 6000 years ago in India, aims to integrate the body and the mind.
The declaration of this day came after the call for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014.
"Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness within yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day." In suggesting June 21, which is the Summer Solstice, as the International Day of Yoga, Narendra Modi had said that the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world.

The Rice Shoots are sanctioned temporarily every year for the duration of flowing of flood water in Ghaggar River. This practice is in force since 1975. The beneficiary farmers rue that for the 1st time Irrigation department is trying to deny this facility. The farmers were resentful that BJP govt is insensitive to farmers and is dilly dallying even the waters that arrive here as natural resource.  The farmers said that the very purpose of Ottu Head works and Ottu Lake is to prevent floods and make the flood water useful and available for irrigation especially during the Rice Crop Season.  This Irrigation facility also helps save electricity that is used to run Electric Motors of Tubewell, helps checking depleting water tables in the area.
XEN Sh. NK Bhola tried to pacify the farmers and sought some time to resolve the matter. The farmers said that if it is not resolved they will step up the agitation.
