A NEWS Portal to be run and maintained by faculty members & students of Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Ch. Devi Lal University, SIRSA was click started yesterday by Sh. Mange Ram Gupta, Minister of Education Haryana at the TAGORE Bhawan Auditorium yesterday in the evening. The website was displayed via a DLP projector on a large screen.
Speaking on the occasion the minister said that it was perhaps the first website of this kind in Haryana that shall be run by a university, this would usher Haryana students into hi tech arena. He said that Haryana was all set to allow private universities in Haryana, as the modern academic challenges cannot be met by Government run universities alone.
He also urged the students to build good character and be disciplined to be successful in life. He gave his own example and admitted that though he was not highly educated but his dedication integrity and hard work towards his duties had made it possible to climb such high posts.
He also gave reference of Swami Vivekananda’s American tour in 1893 where the Swami told his American counterparts that India and Indians are known for their characters and not for the way they dress up. Mr. Virender Chauhan, was quick enough to display the picture and then NEWS about Swami Vivekanand from the Jansanchar Portal itself as and when the minister referred to the Swami, perhaps not many noticed his-this synchronization effort.
Addressing the audience Mr. V.S. Chauhan HOD Journalism & Mass Communication said that everyone must be aware that today most of the newspapers and TV channels are also maintaining their supporting web portals along with their mainstream media, hence it shall be very prudent for all Journalism & Mass Communication students to learn the website authoring and web news basics. He added that this portal shall be more like an online lab for Journalism students, and in this way the Portal shall be able to provide them opportunity for on hands training on this aspect which shall be an added advantage to such students when they become professionals.
Dr. K.C. Bhardwaj Vice Chancellor, CDLU, thanked the minister for accepting the invitation for the launch of this web portal out of his busy schedule.
Dr. Janardhan Sharma anchored the program fortifying it with anecdotes, Registrar, Mr. V.S. Nehra & Ms. Padmini Jain, also spoke on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr. V Umashankar, Mr. R.K. Sehgal, Mr. Hoshiari Lal Sharma, Sewa Singh Bajwa, Ravinder, Vineet Chabra, Amit Sangwan, media persons, students and faculty members were present on the occasion.
The minister announced a grant of Rs5lacs for CDLU from his ministerial quota on the spot which was applauded.
We at SirsaNews that is in existence since 2005, also congratulate Mr. V.S. Chauhan and CDLU for this institutional effort perhaps both these NEWS portals can co exist and complement each other.

The Sikh Pioneers were later merged into the Sappers and Miners. World War-II and its need for additional troops saw the rise of Mazhabi and Ramdasia Sikhs as a regiment in 1941.
