63rd Republic Day was celebrated in Sirsa with Revenue Minister Sh. Mahinder Pratap Singh unfurling the Tricolour. After that he inspected the parade and took salute at the ceremonial march-past. Before reaching Bhagat Singh Stadium, he paid tribute to the martyrs at Shahid Smarak. In his address he said this day has been achieved with great sacrifices. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA President Sonia Gandhi’s vision is making the nation reach pinnacle. Chief Minister Hooda is also working hard for the progress of the state to make it free from famine and poverty. He urged that it is duty of every citizen to contribute in the progress of nation and society.

Deputy commissioner Dr. J. Ganesan IAS, Distt and Session Judge Sh. Subhash  Goyal, SP Sirsa Sh. Devinder Singh  Yadav, CJM Sh Naresh Singhal, City Magistrate Pardeep Kaushik, Sh Bharat Singh Beniwal, Sh Mani Ram Keharwala school children and several citizens were present.

Participants of Parade and cultural events were applauded and awarded trophies and certificates.

Netaji Subhash Chander Bose was remembered yesterday at Sirsa. A program as it is done every year was organised by members of Tarun Sangh at Subhash Chowk Sirsa by Garlanding the Bust of Netaji at Subhash Chowk. Sh SP Singh Air Commodore Air Force Station was the chief guest at the ceremony. Later a march past of a procession from Subhash Chowk passing through main markets of Sirsa ended at Bhagat Singh Park. At Bhagat Singh Park a seminar along with choreography by team of Sanjiv Shad was held. Tarun Sangh’s president Sh Satish Gupta, Subhash Bishnoi, Ajeet Singh Rattan, Sh Jagdish Chopra, Sh. Baldev Bakshi, Wing Commander Sh Gupta, Pardeep Sachdeva, Dr RS Sangwan, Sh Ramesh Mehta, Sh Anand Biyani, Freedom Fighter Sh Bhagu Ram, Sh Heera Lal Sharma, Sh RS Bajaj, Sh Roshan Vats, Ramesh Goyal, Jagat Kakkar, Sanjeev Kalra, Sewa Singh Namdhari, Sh Dina Nath Aggarwal etc. were present.

All nine Ill-fated occupants of a speeding Verna Car died on the spot in a head on collision with a loaded truck between Gillaan Khera and Daryapur falling in Fatehabad district. The Car was coming from Sirsa. The occupants were two couples and their 5 minor children. Misjudgement by the car’s driver while overtaking a truck resulted in head on collision. The occupants were returning after visiting a religious function at Dera Sach Sauda Sirsa.

J Ganesan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Mewat will be the new Deputy Commissioner, Sirsa relieving M L Kaushik of the additional charge.  Haryana government today issued transfer orders of six IAS officers with immediate effect. The Showers that occurred in the evening of 14^th and 15^th are very beneficial to all types of crops in Sirsa district. The rain has come after a prolonged and much awaited dry spell since the departure of Monsoon has cheered up farmers. The prolonged dry and frosty spell, was not good for the crops.

Lohri was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Sirsa owing to good sunny weather. Punjabi Satkar Sabha organized a Lohri Mela at Jaat Dharmshala. The Cultural program on the mela was well attended, different amateur artists and school children performed with passion to leave the audience spell bound. Comrade Swaran Singh Virk was the keynote speaker on the occasion. Pardee Sachdeva president PSS and Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhillon thanked the audience and the performers.  Famous Choreographer Sanjeev Shad anchored the stage with perfection. Kanwaljit Singh ‘Aman’ registered new members for ‘Punjabi Satkar Sabha’.

Lohri was celebrated at CDLU and JCDV also.

On 14^th January, to celebrate Lohri and Makkar Sankranti (Maghi) a family Get Together and a cultural evening was organized by Haryana Union of Journalists (HUJ) at Surkhab Tourist Complex. Though elaborate arrangements were done to make the evening a memorable one, but rain gods played spoil sport, dampening the festivities. Arun Bhardwaj, Dheeraj Bajaj, Sansar Bhushan Diwakar, Uttam Singh Grover, Baljit Singh, Mrs Simran, Kasturi Chabra etc. conducted the program. Mr Bhupesh Mehta and Mrs Mehta were Guests of Honour present. Various games, music, song and dance numbers were presented before lighting the Lohri. Several journalists from HUJ as well as across other unions and several prominent families from the City were present.
