Devender a 3rd year Student of The Chaudhary Devi Lal Memorial Engineering College, Panniwala Mota, about 15 KM from Sirsa died of a suspected heat stroke.
The students of the institute thereafter blocked NH10 accusing the college administration of blatant negligence in taking care of the student whose life could have been saved if the college authorities had on campus medical care or even if they had acted promptly on the complaint the student. The students informed press and media that the college does not have even adequate potable water, leave aside any kind of medical aid or first aid to deal with emergencies, the college could not even spare its van for transporting the sick student to city Sirsa for medical care, while the college vehicles are always misused by the staff of all rank and file, the students alleged.
Deputy Commissioner Sirsa, Mr. SK Goyal, SSP Sirsa, Mr. Subhash Yadav and a heavy police force had to be deployed to take stock of the situation. The blockade was later lifted after the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP negotiated with the students and assured then of action. College director principal Mr. DS Mor refuted all the allegations of the students and said appropriate action can be taken only after the post mortem report of the student.
