Dr Praveen Aghamkar, Controller of Examination and Chairperson, Department
of Physics, Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) Sirsa, was found hanging from
a Dupatta tied on a iron grill in the washroom of his residence at the University
Campus on the morning of 4th July, 2018.
Upon information of a maid, campus security, took Dr Aghamkar to Civil
Hospital Sirsa, where the doctors declared him, ‘Brought Dead’.
Several University teachers and other university employees thronged at
civil hospital, and were anguished and accused that Dr Aghamkar took this
extreme step owing to deteriorated work environment and extreme work pressure
at the university. “He had applied to resign from the additional charge of
Controller of Examination, but the same was not accepted so far. Often he told
his colleagues that he does not like his additional duties.” A teacher commented.
Dr Praveen Aghamkar was from place near Mumbai in Maharashtra and had
joined CDL University about a decade ago. Apart from Chairing the Physics Department
he was assigned the herculean task of Controller of Examination.
Those who had known Dr Aghamkar, found him warm, cheerful and helpful in
nature. Dr Aghamkar a man of short height was a towering personality otherwise.
Nano-Technology was his favorite subject in Physics, and he often inspired his
students at University and in his lectures elsewhere about this relatively new
branch of physics. Apart from his various degrees and a PhD in India, Dr
Aghamkar also completed his post doctoral work in Italy in the beginning of
this new millennium.

The Police could not take statement of his wife on the pretext that she is
not in condition to give a statement.
Mystery shrouds about why Dr Praveen Aghamkar, who was always cheerful and
upright personality took this Extreme Step. There is no known history of his
having bouts of depression as his friends say.
Following it, office of Prof
Vijay K Kayat, Vice Chancellor of CDLU remained a place of heated verbal duals
between several university teachers and the Vice Chancellor. The teachers accuse
the Vice Chancellor for this sad happening, and are demanding an independent
inquiry into it. Even a demand for removal of The Vice Chancellor was also raised.
While the Vice Chancellor said that he had great respect for Dr Praveen Aghamkar
and will also like to find out the truth, he refuted all the accusations and allegations
making rounds against him are not true and are unfounded. He also said that Dr
Praveen did not move a resignation letter in my tenure; it might have been in
tenure of his predecessor.
