IGNOU STUDENTS CONSTITUTE BODY TO PROTEST AGAINST CLOSURES OF STUDY CENTRES.
HUNDREDS OF students of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today assembled in the local Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Hall and constituted a students body ‘IGNOU Students council’ that would function under the guidance and banner of All India Students Federation (AISF) to fight the injustice by closing all the 37 Study centres of the University throughout Haryana by the present Bhupinder Singh Hooda government. Ajit Singh the founder president of the student body told today that for reasons best known to the Govt, not only the centres have been closed but the students have been left in the lurch as the students can neither appear for their practical examinations nor there is anyone to accept their assignments. He alleged that by this unwanted step the Haryana Government has negated the efforts of late Rajiv Gandhi who started this University to cater to the needs of the poor students belonging to the far flung rural areas who are otherwise incapable to pursue higher studies due to limited sources and also those who are already employed either in Private sector or in the government jobs. Mr. Singh alleged that apparently the study centers are being closed under pressure of the Private Sector which has opened various education shops to fleece the poor students in the name of education. He warned that in case the Haryana Government fails to reopen the study centers, they would intensify their agitation. He said that on February 12 they would submit a memorandum to the Haryana Chief Minister through the local Deputy Commissioner.
