Punjabis should assert to rejuvenate the beautiful language- Kuldeep Dhindsa

A convention ‘Punjabi Milan Smagam’ held under the aegis of Punjabi Satkar Sabha yesterday at Kamalia Bhawan Sirsa, the chief guest Dr Kuldeep Dhindsa said that Punjabi is a beautiful language which is losing its sheen due to various factors especially in Haryana, he said that though English may be important for today’s demanding careers but it does not mean that one should learn English and other languages at the cost of mother tongue Punjabi. All languages can co- exist in perfect harmony. Dr. Dhindsa who is Director General of JCDV and an eminent scientist of international repute spoke in chaste Punjabi and only few knew till the audience was informed that he belongs to a Jaat family of Shahbad in Haryana, he himself is as fluent in English and Hindi is a living example of how many languages can flourish together. He narrated many anecdotes from his travel to Germany and other western countries where he met Punjabis dwelling from various parts of the world, various religions, various cultures, but all bonded by one common language: Punjabi.
Pardeep Sachdeva president of the Sabha anchored the stage in the beginning and then this region’s famous choreographer Sanjeev Shad took over to impress the audience with his deep voice and self composed shayree.
Mr Bhupinder Panniwala informed that they have procured Primers from DGMC and have tested it Dr. Gajendra Singh Raghav bureau in-charge Amar Ujala who hails from Uttar Pardesh, and found that he could effectively write and read Punjabi after using the Primer. Such Primers shall be distributed soon to aid the learning of reading and writing of Punjabi.
Ms. Tarranum Bharti an engineering student of JCDV who had also competed at Awaz Punajbi Di reality TV Show rendered four beautiful Punjabi Songs with the melodious background Music of Mr. Murari Verma who has cut several music albums.
Another Sufi singer from Sirsa Mr. Dilbagh Ali also gave his performance.
Mr Harish Bhatia SDM Sirsa said that apart from great job of promoting Punjabi that the Punjabi Satkar Sabha has taken up, the Sabha should also simultaneously make parents aware to take care of their wards and carve out responsible citizens out of them for the betterment of Punjabis as well as the Nation.
Mr. Surender Bhatia, journalist that great damage has been done by Punjabis themselves by recording their mother tongue as Hindi during several previous Population counts, this should not be repeated in the soon to be done Population Statistics, he appealed to all Punjabis.
Mr. Amarjeet Singh Kang, HOD Department of Punjabi KUK said that at the time of his first appointment to the newly started PG in Punjabi at KUK he had the option to take an appointment with PU, but he for the cause of Punjabi in Haryana opted for the Haryana’s KUK post, and since then there had been no looking back, he had dedicated himself to Punjabi, and in return Punjabi had fulfilled his every wish, coming from a very poor family, today he is HOD of Department of Punjabi all because of his unfazed love for this beautiful language.
Mr. Suresh Mehta president Bar Association Sirsa quizzed that although he is proud Punjabi but the today’s hapless youth who desires to get a job in Call Centers and its likes can do with his mother tongue where English dominates, to this Dr Kuldeep Dhindsa replied that all languages can co-exist beautifully, we should not bring forward Punjabi at the cost of English or Hindi but take it forward along with other languages.
Mr Jagat Narain Mehta a philanthropist, who runs free meals for the patients at Civil Hospital Sirsa since last several years, was awarded Late Sh. Rakesh Chitkara Punjabi Rattan Award.
Dr Gajendra Singh, Mr Kasturi Chabra, NRI Mr. Baltej Singh Dhaliwal Tehsildar Retd., Mr. Ravi Posh, Savjit Tinna, Ravinder Sharma, Dr Ramesh, Yashpal Chabra, Sanjeev Kalra, GS. Mann, Narbhinder Singh, Sandeep Chaudhary, Prabhudayal, Tulsi Mehta, Sham Bajaj, Gulshan Grover, Swatantar Bharti etc were present at the Convention.
