Manmohan Singh Promotes “Ik Kudi Punjab Di” at Ohm Cinema

“Ik Kudi Punjab Di” a Punjabi film on gender equality, is a story about a young girl’s struggle for gender equality and her triumph. The film is to be released on September 17. Manmohan Singh, producer-director, who originally belongs to Sirsa, accompanied by well-known comedian Ghuggi and some other cast and crew members of the film, was here today at Ohm Cine Garden to promote his film.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said his film was the story of a young girl who dares to challenge the male- dominated society. “We all say there is no difference between boys and girls, but we all know that the truth is different. Jaspinder Cheema, who is in the lead role, understands that her struggle is not easy, but is prepared to make any sacrifice for her goal,” explained Manmohan Singh.

“She has to fight her parents, her relatives and her lover, who understands her, but is under pressure from his parents. They finally find that the world of theatre can help them achieve their goal.”

The film is set in Panjab University, Chandigarh. Manmohan Singh, who left Sirsa in the late seventies to try his luck in Bollywood, established himself as a talented cinematographer with films like “Chandni”, “Betab”, “Lamhe”, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”, “Machis”, “Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai”, “Dil To Pagal Hai”, “Mohabbatein”, “Hu-tu-tu”, “Albela”, “Dekh Bhai Dekh”, “Dillagi” and “Filhal”. Manmohan Singh has had seven hits in Punjabi, “Jee Ayaan Nu”, “Asa Nu Maan Watna Da”, “Yaran Naal Baharan”, “Dil Apna Punjabi”, “Mitti Wajan Mardi”, “Mera Pind, My Home” and “Munde UK De.” He has received the Filmfare Best Cinematographer award for “Chandni” and “Darr”, the Sansui Viewers Choice Award for “Mohabbatein” and the Lux Zee Cine Award for “Dil To Pagal Hai.”

In the eighties, he directed a few Punjabi films like “Chan Pardesi” and “Naseebo.

Manmohan Singh did his post-graduation in the field of Biology from Punjab University Itself, before he left to join FTII, Pune for formal training in the field of Cinematography and other technicalities of Film industry. Only few know that Manmohan Singh is an accomplished singer also and has got the opportunity to singh duets with Lata Mangeshakar and Asha Bhonsale for Hindi Films. He also is a keen Tabla Player. His father, Late S. Saudagar Singh retd from the post of Sr Scitiets from Agriculture Department Haryana, Mammohan ji’s Maternal uncle. S. Kanwaljit Singh is a famous Punjabi Poet. Manmohan’s first ever Hindi Movie which he cinematographed was Ahsaas, that was released in early eighties, got accolades in the industry circles for its marvelous shoots of outdoor locales.
