Mahender Singh, a mason and resident of Ellenabad town, was buried in a 30 feet deep trench when he was engaged in laying the pipes for the deep sewerage system by the Public Health Department near the Mameran road Bypass at Ellenabad.

While he, along with other labourers, was busy in laying down the pipes yesterday, a big mound of loose earth suddenly fell upon him. Fellow labourers raised an alarm and rescue work started.

On getting the information SDM Subhash Sheoran accompanied by Tehsildar Paramjit Chahal, SDO Public Health C.M. Sayal and a team of doctors arrived on the spot to supervise the rescue operations.

Rescue operations that lasted more than an hour of careful removal of the loose earth, pulled out the mason alive from the trench. He was immediately rushed to a Govt. Health centre where his condition was stated to be stable.
