In order to foster the feelings of brotherhood and communal amity, representatives of various social organizations, NGO’s Traders Organizations, joined hands with Local Peace Committee: ‘Shanti Samiti’ and took out a peace march in Sirsa Town yesterday.
Over 1000 peace marchers assembled in the Gandhi Park situated in New Anaj Mandi Sirsa, the congregation was addressed by Dr. Ved Beniwal, before taking out the peace procession. The march was sans any shouting of Slogans etc. Dr. Beniwal while addressing the peace-marchers said that while it is right of the citizens of India to protest against any injustice etc. at the same time the way the protests and protestants are bringing public life to stand still lately should not be tolerated, Dr. Beniwal cited the provisions of Honorable Supreme Court of India against such protesters. He demanded that such protesters should be brought to book and should be fined for disruptions to the freedom of innocent citizens, and at times damages done to public property.
He impressed that protesters can take alternative modes of tendering protest, whereby people should not suffer from their acts, today’s peace march is going to be one such example of an alternative peaceful mode of protest.
At one instance Dr. Beniwal accused the media especially the electronic media of abetting such protests, his criticism of media were not taken to kindly, by the media persons present at the venue for media coverage, Dr. Ved later clarified that what he meant was that some of the TV channels resort to such tactics to increase their TRP ratings etc. they should restrain themselves from this in the larger interests of the society.
He thanked all those present that they have taken time out of their busy schedules, braving the summer heat and have come over here for a common cause. This itself proves that people are for peace, he said.
He also said that Sirsa should be known as it had been known in the past, for being a city of Blood Donors, Eye Donors, Organ Donors and other such acts of philanthropy.
After the address the peace-marchers traversed through main streets of the town, the march culminated at the local town park. The congregation at the Town Park was addressed by Mr. Swarn Singh Wirk, Mr. Wirk said that, today’s peace march has given a clear message in the region that people of Sirsa from all castes and creed, from all walks of life, are strong advocates of peace and nothing less than peace.
