In an attempt to bring a permanency feature to Peace in SIRSA and to maintain calm in Sirsa district, which recently witnessed a clash between Dera Sacha Sauda followers and some Sikhs that left 12 injured, youths will be designated as "Shanti Doots" meaning peace messengers.
Deputy Commissioner Dr J Ganesan has mooted a plan to make this an effective tool.
In urban areas, 10 to 15 youths from each ward and at the village-level Sarpanch and five other persons will be designated as messengers of peace, an official spokesman said here today. These messengers will spread the message of peace in villages and cities from time to time and will also assist the administration to check any kind of communal violence, he said.
Deputy Commissioner J Ganeshan had convened a meeting of former and sitting Municipal Councillors and asked them to identify 15 youths each from their respective wards, the spokesman said. The "peace messengers" will also be issued identity cards by the district administration, he said.Apart from this, they will be imparted training in first aid and also on how to maintain peace in the city, the spokesman said. Services of youths will also be sought in preventing any rumour in villages and cities, the spokesman said.
In the recent unrest rumor mongers made their day by spreading rumours via SMS and other ways so much so that the rumors crossed international borders, for one such rumors SirsaNews had to post exclusive Video of DC Sirsa to throw light about the facts .
