This year several organizations of Sirsa have appealed to people of Sirsa to cut down or totally abstain from use of fire works and crackers to save the environment. This is only to be seen that how far the appeal goes with the public. If the sale at the Patakha Stalls is any indication it seems that the appeals are going to be unheard and there shall be another Diwali night full of High decibel Noise Din and Smoke. Apart from pollution Diwali night din also disturbs the animal kingdom and the pets, it is a big torture on them, however the reeling under supremacy of mankind these animals cannot express their agony against insensitiveness of human race. Mr. Suresh Pahuja a local Graphics Designer has even sent his Diwali Greetings in the form of ‘Say No To Crackers.’

Apart from the home coming celebrations of Sri Ram Chandra ji, Diwali has a special meaning for Sikhs as well, Sikhs celebrate it as "Bandi Chhor Divas" as on this Day the 6th Sikh Guru Sri Hargobind Sahib was released with 52 Kings from Gwalior Prison. The word "Bandi" means "imprisoned", "Chhor" means "release" and "Divas" means "day" and together "Bandi Chhor Divas" means Prisoner Release Day.

Diwali is celebrated abroad also with great fervor but in a different way, as individuals are not permitted to use fireworks in advanced nations. In Vancouver this year Diwali shall be celebrated on 7th in a novel way by organizing power packed entertainment. To know how Diwali is celebrated in Vancouver visit: http://www.vandiwali.ca/
