The Sirsa Chapter of Indian Psychiatric Society of North Zone (IPSHAR), organized a 2 day seminar on Psychiatry at Shivdei Resorts Sirsa. Dr Ashok Gupta a leading psychiatrist of Sirsa informed Sirsa News that the focus of the 2 day seminar was on Drug de-addiction and ill effects of Drug abuse. The seminar was attended by over 70 eminent psychiatrists from Haryana state as well several from rest of India. Dr Narender Chaudhary CMO Sirsa was the chief guest at the seminar. IPSHAR-2010 was 9th annual conference of Indian Psychiatric Society of North Zone. Dr Vedpal Mehla from Rohtak was concerned about the rapid rise of Drug abuse in school and college going students, apart from alcohol the youth is also illegally using prescription medicines as intoxicant. Dr. Surjit Shenoy a special invitee from Mumbai highlighted the various ill effects of drug abuse its consequences and its management. Dr. Shenoy highlighted that drug abuse is leading the youth into a dark future. Dr Rajeev Dogra, Assistant Professor, Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Rohtak said that alcohol, opium, poppy husk etc are also augmenting other diseases and disorders such as cardiac diseases, paralytic stroke, renal failure etc apart from psychiatric disorders.

Dr Ashok Gupta told Sirsa News that The Indian Psychiatric Society is a professional body of psychiatry in India, that aims to Promote and advance the subject of Psychiatry and allied sciences in all their different branches; promote the improvement of the mental health of the people and mental health education; promote prevention, control, treatment and relief of all psychiatric disabilities; formulate and advise on the standards of education and training for medical and auxiliary personnel in psychiatry and to recommend adequate teaching facilities for the purpose; promote research in the field of psychiatry and mental health. Propagate the principles of psychiatry and current development in psychiatric thought; deal with any matters relating to mental health concerning the country and to do all other things as are cognate to the subjects of the Indian Psychiatric Society; safeguard the interest of Psychiatrists and fellow professionals in India; promote ethical standards in the practice of psychiatry in India.

Dr. R.S. Sangwan, Dr. B. Guleria, Dr. Satish Jhunthra and Dr Sai also attended the conference.
