A Seminar and inter college debate on the Contemporary human rights issues was today at Lalahans Raj Phutela College of Law campus in association with Citizen’s Forum on Human Rights-Sirsa Chapter.
Miss Akanksha of Mata Harki Devi College of Education Odhan stood forst in the individual competiton section while the team of Government National College Sirsa represented by Mr. Raman Monga & Mr. Satpal won the ‘Lala Lal Chand Tayal Trophy’.
The seminar was presided over by Capt. CR Kaswan IPS I.G. Police (Retd.). Dr. RSSangwan, Ms Kumud R. Bansal, Mr. Arvind Bansal, mr.Dayanand Sharma, Mr. Rai Singh Saharan (DSP Retd.) [President English Promotion Forum] Dr. JS Jakhar, Mr. Raj Kumar Nijat, Mr. Sukhender Singh Pawar (Advocate), Mr. Gopal Krishan Saraff, Miss Anupam Ahluwalia, Principal LHP College of Law, Ms. Anju Sharma Principal GRG School, Mr. Anoop Singh were the prominent persons who attended the seminar along with many of other students of different institutes.
The debate was ably anchored by Mr. Vikram Kumar librarian of LHP College of Law.

Speaking on the seminar, Dr Sangwan said that teachers impart education but if they also spread awareness amongst masses especially in the villages then there can be greater protection of Human rights. He said that life is not worth living unless you know about rights (fundamental rights). He also exhorted the students of the Law college that once they join legal profession they should make it a point to make the clients aware of Human Rights. He mentioned the UNO announcements of 1948 which were promptly incorporated by the Govt. of India during the formation of Constitution of India in 1950. He said that the dignity of human beings thus finds mention in the Constitution of India. He enlisted a number of Human Rights violations (torture) done by Police towards the accused in the custody. He said that by holding such seminars more often awareness of human rights can be spread.

Speaking on the occasion Miss Kumaud Ramanand Bansal (advocate) said people always talk about human rights and its violations but no one ever talks about discharging their duties properly. She said that if individuals, officials, departments, organizations discharge their duties properly Human rights shall get better deliverance automatically. She also said that at times the human rights issues become tricky as well she cited the example of the days of terrorism in Punjab, she said that the very police personnel who were instrumental in eliminating terrorism from PUNJAB were later charge-sheeted for Human Rights violation.
