In response to nation wide call for Bandh by an amalgam of 13 parties against rise in inflation and related issues, Sirsa remained completely BANDH from Dusk to Dawn. The Bandh this time was however peaceful unlike the BANDH of 3rd April. The success of today’s BANDH mainly goes to INLD joining the band wagon of 13 parties. In Sirsa which is home time of Ex CM Ch OP Chautala, INLD is the only effective opposition party amongst the 13, however CPI, CPM, All India Kisan Sabha, DYFI and AISF also did there bit and appealed to shop keepers to make the BANDH a success. INLD activists played in a more organized way and made troops of vehicles bound workers and foot-workers making rounds of all the markets and appealing for BANDH. This time there was no attempt from the party workers of ruling party to thaw the BANDH so the BANDH was complete as well as peaceful.

On 26th April

Abhay Singh Chautala INLD MLA for Ellenabad Vidhan Sabha Constituency, while addressing a PC at his Dabwali road Sirsa residence, claimed that not even a single shop shall open during tomorrow's BANDH as people are fed up the Ruling party and with the rising inflation. He said that people are ready for a voluntary BANDH tomorrow in Sirsa and its towns like Ellenabad, Rania, Dabwali Kalanwali etc.

Hoshiari Lal Sharma Distt. President Congress Committee, has appealed to shopkeepers that they should keep their shops open tomorrow, claiming that the Bandh is not in the national interest.

Ranbir Khobra is going to be 22 this May, but at the age of 21 yrs and a couple of months he was elected as a Municipal Councilor (MC) from ward no. 11 of Tohana on 30th July, 2009. Only a person who has attained an age of 21 can contest an election of Municipal Councils. Ranbir did just that when he contested the election at the age of 21 yrs and 2months and was elected as MC. He is perhaps the youngest MC as of today in Haryana.

Ranbir says that he is the only one in his nuclear family who have contested any elections, as his father is in Govt Service in HSAMB and his mother is a teacher, so he was totally novice to politics yet he was able to defeat his nearest rival, 35 yrs old Sh. NamePal, an experienced person in politics.

Asked weather he has taken to politics as whole time, Ranbir told Sirsa News that it is not so, besides being a student of BBA at GJU Hisar, he is also looking after his business enterprise in the local grain market and is also marketing insurance products of a popular Govt. Sector Life Insurer. On contesting MLA or MP elections in future Ranbir said that given a chance he shall surely contest such elections as well.

Computer savvy and well mannered Ranbir says that his intention to join politics is to serve his area and people. He believes that youth of today should take actively to politics to usher a change in Indian political scenario.

He said that he and his entire government was dedicated to the cause of holistic development of state without any parochial consideration. He took a dig on his betenoire OP Chautala by lebelling him and his two sons for using politics for their self aggrandizement. He asserted that for him the politics was a weapon to serve the society. He alleged that Chautalas had been making false claims about making developments in Sirsa district during their tenure but the real fact was that they raised a University in Chaudhary Devi Lal's only to hoodwink the people. They later floated their own Chaudhary Devi Lal VidhyaPeeth and developed it at the cost of University which was relegated to the back seat and spent only a sum of Rs.9 crores on the Varisity.

Hooda said that when he came to power in 2005, he inherited a sick and defunct Varisity and it was only due to his personal care and attention that now the University can boost of at being at par with other top ranking universities of the country. Regarding the bandh which was forcibly imposed upon the Sirsa people by the INLD on the eve of his visit here. All the schools, banks and other public utilities remained open. Vehicular traffic on roads remained unaffected. Only doctors and chemists were exempt from the bandh call. Jhinda Demands 100 Crore from SGPC;

accuses PM of opposing Formation of Haryana SGPC.

Addressing a press conference at Punjab Palace in Sirsa Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGPC) (Adhoc) President Jagdish Singh Jhinda today accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of opposing the formation of separate SGPC in Haryana. PM Manmohan Singh is under undue influence of SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar on the behest of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Mr. Jhinda, alleged that Makker being a relative of Manmohan Singh had been able to misguide PM that a separate SGPC for Haryana shall divide the Sikhs Religion while the fact is that a separate SGPC only means separation of management of Haryana Gurdwaras form that of Punjab. Despite repeated requests to the PMO for fixing a meeting with the PM to apprise him about the issues of Sikhs of Haryana, he had never been given an opportunity to see him personally, now he has written to the PM what he desired to apprise and discuss with him by meeting him personally.

Mr Jhinda also mentioned the recent incident of yesterday when he was virtually pushed out of SGPC budget session at Amritsar only because he wanted to raise the demand for 40% percent allocation of the total budget of more than Rs.500 crore for Haryana. As of today a meager amount of only Rs8 crores is set aside for Haryana which is grossly unfair. Jagdish Jhinda wants atleast Rs100 crore for Haryana Sikhs and Gurdwaras from this very year. Mr Jhinda said that Makker and his protégés feared that if he (Jhinda) was allowed to speak, then he shall expose several financial bunglings of the SGPC president in association with his other faithful members.

Mr. Jhinda welcomed the declaration of Punjabi as second language in Haryana by CM Mr. BS Hooda and said that now it was up to the Sikhs in particular and Punjabi community in general to take advantage of Punjabi’s new found status and start correspondence with Government offices in Punjabi so that the language flourishes. Mr. Jhinda believed that CM Haryana Mr. Hooda was serious for the formation of HSGPC but is waiting for a green signal from PMO.

Mr. Jhinda also highlighted and demanded that the age of eligibility of voters for SGPC elections should also be 18 years in tune with norms of national electorate, instead of the present eligibility age which is 21 yrs old.
