Birth Centenary of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar was celebrated today by Punjabi Satkar Sabha (Sirsa). The simple function was organized by Pardeep Sachdeva, Bhupinder Panniwalia, Sh Prabhudayal and other members of the Sabha at conference hall at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park. Comrade Baldev Bakshi was the chief guest, Comrade Avtar, Sh Kasturi Chabra, S. Harbahjan Singh Rainu and several others attended the function.

Comrade Narbhinder, the keynote speaker at the seminar said, that Sukhdev Thapar was a revolutionary who lived from 15th May 1907 to March 23, 1931). Mostly he is best known as an accomplice of Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru in the killing of a British police officer J.P. Saunders in 1928 in order to take revenge for the death of veteran leader Lala Lajpat Rai due to excessive police beating. But this portrayal of just an accomplice is quiet underrated; his role or sacrifice in no was anything less than Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru or his other contemporaries. He detailed how the strategies of Sukhdev were put to action by Bhagat Singh.

All three were hanged in Lahore Central Jail on March 23, 1931 in the evening at 7.33 pm against all norms of hanging. The dead bodies were secretly taken away by breaking the back walls of the jail and were seceretly burnt on the banks of River Satluj at Hussainiwala about 50 miles away from Lahore. The bodies were cut into pieces to make the burial quick.

Sukhdev was an active member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, being one of its most senior leaders. He is known to have started study circles at National College, (Lahore) in order to delve into India's past as well as to scrutinize the finer aspects of world revolutionary literature and the Russian Revolution. Along with Bhagat Singh, Comrade Ram Chandra and Bhagwati Charan Vohra, he started Naujawan Bharat Sabha at Lahore. The main aims of this organisation were to activate youth for freedom struggle, inculcate a rational scientific attitude, fight communalism and end the practice of untouchability. Sukhdev was deeply impressed by Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil, and Chandrashekhar Azad.

Sukhdev also participated in the 1929 Prison hunger strike to protest against the inhuman treatment of inmates.

His letter to Mahatma Gandhi written just prior to his hanging, protesting against the latter's disapproval of revolutionary tactics, throws light on the disparities between the two major schools of thought among Indian freedom fighters.

However, Hansraj Vohra - the man who gave the clinching testimony that resulted in the hanging of the trio, claimed that Sukhdev had himself turned an approver. Nevertheless, this relatively baseless contention does not detract from the tremendous courage, patriotism and self-sacrifice that Sukhdev Thapar embodifies.

HARYANA SIKHS NOT TO BOW DOWN BY THREATS OF BADALS.
PROMISES- SIKH UNIVERSITY IN HARYANA ON FORMATION HSGPC
JAGDISH SINGH JHINDA, the President of the proposed separate Haryana Sikh body spearheading the campaign for the formation of a separate Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee for Haryana asserted that the Haryana Sikhs knew how to safeguard and protect their own as well as the interests of the Gurudwaras located in the state. While addressing media persons here today he alleged that political People like Prakash Singh Badal were uselessly meddling in the religious affairs of Haryana Sikhs who want to manage their own Gurudwaras and other attached institutions. He accused Badal of coercing the Haryana as well as the Union governments for not acceding to the genuine and legitimate demand of the Haryana Sikhs by raising the bogey and threatening the return of the dark ‘era’in Punjab and the country in case the demand for the formation of a Separate Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee for Haryana was formed. Jhinda claimed that Badal and people of his ilk were
not the true followers of Sikh gurus and their tenets as the first Guru Nanak Dev Ji had preached ‘Vand Khao Khand Khao’( distribute every thing amongst all) but are posing their nose only for their self aggrandizement. He alleged that for last 42 years since the formation of Haryana all the income generated through offerings in Haryana Gurudwaras was being carried away to Punjab where it was grossly misused. He further alleged that the present SGPC had not opened even a Single Teaching institurion like a Medical or dental College or taken care of the Gurudwaras etc. Jhinda said that the ongoing Haryana Sikh’s 37 day old relay Fast in front of the Ambala residence of the HPCC president Phool Chand Mullana was called off only after assurances were given by Mr. Mullana, Virender Singh political Advisor to chief Minister Hooda and Ambala MLA Davender Bansal for acceding to the demand of Haryana Sikhs for formation of a separate Gurudwara prabandhak Committee. He claimed that the trio had assured that a Bill in this connection would be brought in the forthcoming session of the Haryana Assembly. He further asserted that the Haryana Sikhs undeterred by the threats of Prakash Singh Badal like people would continue their peaceful agitation till discrimination against them was stopped and their genuine and legitimate demand was full filled.

When the major Cable TV Operator of Sirsa, City Cable’s Head End Unit was gutted in a massive fire recently, a substantial chunk of TV viewers who solely depended on the services of this cable network were deprived of TV signals. The Newly started SMS News service of department of Journalism & Mass Communication of CDLU came to the rescue of NEWS hungry citizens, keeping abreast with latest National & Local NEWS headlines. This SMS service by the name of SAMACHAAR is an initiative taken by the dynamic chairperson of the department Mr. Virender Chauhan. With the AM radios already extinct, and the terrestrial TV antennas missing from the roof tops, people were left only with the SMS News from CDLU before next day’s news paper.

Mr. Chauhan is always brimming with newer concepts and ideas that he does not keep confined to the closets of his mind, but instead give them practically shape at any available opportunity. Before this SMS service Mr. Chauhan had already set up a NEWS portal for the JMC department by the name of jansanchaar (Visit: http://jansanchaar.in/index.php) (or for Related News & Video Click here), which he aptly calls online lab for the students for on-hands training. Four Light Emitting Diode (LED) Display NEWS Tickers that flash the latest news were also setup at the University Teaching Deptt. building. Another feather in cap is the in-house publication of Lab Journal. <(Click for related news)

The next venture of the CDLU-JMC department in waiting is the FM Community radio which is in the pipeline. With no FM signals around Sirsa people are looking forward already even for the test signals by trying to tune around 90 MHz signals. Mr. Chauhan told Sirsa News that he gets full cooperation from the Vice Chancellor of CDLU, Dr. KC Bhardwaj and from Haryana Government under the leadership of Sh. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, as CM Haryana Mr. Hooda has made imparting quality education to Haryana a top priority. To Watch CM at CDLU Video Click Here
